Fort Meigs to host genealogy workshop

PERRYSBURG – Fort Meigs and the Ohio Historical Society will present a "Researching Your Ancestor’s
Military Past" genealogy workshop at the fort Saturday at 10 a.m. and again March 9 from 6:30 to
8:30 p.m.
Liz Plummer, archivist and reference services manager, and John Haas, a military historian, will lead the
workshop, which will review the different kinds of records available in relation to a particular
conflict.
Draft records, military service records, pension files, and militia records will be discussed in detail.
Attendees will learn what information is in these records, how the information was obtained, where the
records are located, and how to access them.
In commemoration of the upcoming bicentennial of the War of 1812, and the sesquicentennial of the
American Civil War, special emphasis will be placed on researching War of 1812 and Civil War veterans.
However, multiple time periods in history will be covered.
The cost for the workshop is $20 ($15 for Ohio Historical Society members) and registration is required.
Attendees need only attend one of the workshop dates, and they should specify which date they would like
to attend when making their reservation.
