John M. Youngpeter

John M. Youngpeter, 79, of Bowling Green, died Monday, February 14, 2011.
He was born May 27, 1931 in Perrysburg to John T. and Bernis I. (Bostdorf) Youngpeter.
He graduated from Weston School in 1949 and received his Bachelor of
Education from BGSU in 1953, his Masters Degree in English from U of M
in 1959, a second Masters Degree in Biology from Columbia University in
1971 and Ph.D. from Columbia University in Biology in 1973.
He taught at Woods Hole Field Museum during 1954, taught Biology at
secondary schools 1953-1962, Sept. 1969 – June 1973 was an instructor at
Columbia University Teachers College, Fall 1973 taught at Lehman
College in New York City. February 1974 – September 1977 was Assistant
Professor of Science at Brooklyn College. He worked at Wards Natural
Science in Chicago June 1962- August 1969. While there he was a guest on
the newly started television program THE TODAY SHOW.
John was at
Denoyer-Geppert Education Publishing Company in Chicago 1977-1981, Maria
High School in Chicago 1981 – 1983 and The Nazareth Academy in Chicago
from 1983 until retiring, where he taught gifted Science and Biology
students.
John has written and published several book to aid elementary students
in the classroom setting along with publishing various articles in the
science field. He traveled extensively around the world twice with his
favorite being The South America Rain Forest.
Survivors include brothers: Jim (Cheryl) and Russ, Bowling Green, Carl
(Soup), Portage, sisters: Carol (Dick) Bowser and Sandy (Phil) Konrad,
Bowling Green, Pam (Denny) Douglas, Portage and Terry (Denny) Gundy,
Weston, 21 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by brothers, Ron, Art, Hubert (Butch).
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, February 18th at
1:30 p.m. at the DUNN FUNERAL HOME. Rev. John Randall will officiate.
Family and friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral
home. Interment is in Sargent Cemetery, Portage.
