BG Winterfest is Thursday-Sunday

Bowling Green’s Winterfest runs Thursday through Sunday with a variety of indoor and outdoor activities
around the community.
Although temperatures are forecast to be in the 50s Thursday and Friday, colder weather is likely
Saturday and Sunday.
Thursday’s events center around the Bowling Green State University Ice Arena with public skating from
12:30 to 1:50 p.m. (also Friday) and an free open curling from 6 to 8 p.m. There also will be a curling
exhibition running to 9 p.m.
Weather permitting ice sculptures will be displayed around the city starting Friday morning. An ice
sculpture demonstration is planned Friday at 6:30 outside the BGSU Ice Arena.
The Wood County Chapter of the American Red Cross will holds its Fire and Ice event Friday from 7 to 11
p.m. at the Clazel Theater.
The Ice Arena will also be the scene of a hockey game between the Falcons and Northern Michigan at 7:05
p.m., with public skating and free hot chocolate from 7 to 10 p.m. in the small rink. Also downtown
Friday night will be the Black Swamp Concert at 8 at Grumpy Dave’s.
During the day on Saturday and Sunday there will be outside skating at City Park, as long as the weather
cooperates. The BG Skating Club will give an exhibition from 8:30 to 9 a.m. at the Ice Arena, followed
by a free family skate with the club until 9:45.
Wood County District Public Library gets active with snow stories and snow globe crafts from 10:30 a.m.
to 12:30 p.m.
The annual one-mile Frost Bite Run starts at 11 a.m. in City Park, followed by a chili cook-off from noon
to 2 p.m. in the Veterans Building in the park.
Snow games are planned at the park from 12:30 to 2 p.m. There will be an ice sculpting demonstration at
the park at 1 p.m.
The BG Youth Hockey house teams will have scrimmages at the Ice Arena from 11:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.,
followed by public skating from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. and again from 8 to 10 p.m.
A winter hike is planned at 4:30 p.m. from the Rotary Nature Center in the Wintergarden-St. John’s Nature
Preserve.
Falcon hockey returns to the ice at 7:05 p.m., against Northern Michigan.
Sunday morning at 11:30 the Snow Dogs Winter Movie Marathon kicks off in the BGSU Bowen-Thompson Student
Union, followed at 1:30 p.m. by the Happy Feet, Miracle and Cool Running movie marathons, the last
starting at 6:30 p.m.
An adult co-ed corn hole tournament starts at 1 p.m. at City Park in the Veterans Building.
