Clifford M. Asmus

Clifford M. Asmus, 90, of Bowling Green, died Friday, February 11, 2011 at Bridge Hospice of Bowling
Green.
He was born to the late Charles and Anna (Grimm) Asmus on August 27, 1920 in Middleton Twp., Wood County,
Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Harold and Ralph.
Clifford enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during World War II as an aviation cadet. After graduating from
flying school, he instructed other cadets for one year at advanced flight school, Spence Field,
Moultrie, Georgia. He served in Panama and was assigned to the 32nd Fighter Squadron flying P-38’s. He
was decorated with the American Theater Service and Victory Medals. At the end of World War II, he was
honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant.
On March 8, 1947 he married Betty R. Joseph and she survives in Bowling Green. Also surviving are a son,
Gary (Barbara), Bowling Green and two daughters, Diane (Beryl) Hemminger, North Baltimore and Debra
(David) Helm of Pemberville; five grandchildren: Kelly (Will) McCartney, Kimberly (Roscoe) Graham,
Matthew (Brandi) Asmus, Lindsay and Emily Helm and two great-grandchildren, Mia and Camden McCartney. He
is also survived by his brother, Victor Asmus of Waterville, Ohio.
Clifford was a full-time farmer, owning and farming land in Middleton and Perrysburg Townships.
He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Haskins, where he held various offices including
President of the Church Council. He also belonged to the Wood County Farm Bureau, Middleton Township
Zoning Board and the United States Air Force Association.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 15, 2011, from 2 to 8 p.m. in the DECK-HANNEMAN FUNERAL HOME

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 16, 2011 in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 17050
Middleton Pike (SR 582), Haskins, Ohio 43525 with burial to follow with military honors in the Oak Grove
Cemetery.
