Photographic pioneer Davidhazy to visit Owens
Andrew Davidhazy, one of the pioneers in the field of high-speed technical and scientific photography,
will lecture and present two workshops Feb. 19 at Owens Community College’s Center for Fine and
Performing Arts in Room 233.
Presented by the Owens Photo Club student organization, Davidhazy’s lecture will take place from 11 a.m.
to noon 12 p.m.
Davidhazy will provide two two-hour, hands-on workshops. One at 1:30 p.m., on "The Basics of
Slit-scan and Strip Cameras and Applications" and a second at 4 p.m. on "Simplified Approaches
to High Speed and Stroboscopic Photography".
His popular images include stop action photos of sneezing, bullets going through playing cards, water
droplets crowning and balloons popping as well as stroboscope photos of golfers or tennis players
showing the full range of motion from a single stroke.
Davidhazy also served on the U.S. House Select Committee that re-examined photographs of Lee Harvey
Oswald, and was later called upon to authenticate a photograph of O. J. Simpson wearing shoes the
ex-football player claimed never to have owned.
To register for either workshop, contact Owens’ Department of Fine and Performing Arts at (567) 661-7081
or 1-800-466-9367, Ext. 7081 or [email protected].
