Italian glass residency available

Bowling Green State University glass students will have an opportunity to study at the renown, Abate
Zanetti School in Murano, Italy for a month this summer in Italy. The workshop will take place May 15 to
June 11.
The Abate Zanetti School opened in 1862 for Muranese glass masters from which it takes is name, the
school intends to promote Murano as a focal point of Glass art in the international scene. The mission
is to shed light on the expressive potential and distinctive characteristics of glass art.
The course will be taught by a Muranese master glass sculptor and assisted by BGSU Instructor, Nadine
Saylor. Several master glassworkers, including Pino Signoretto, who live on the island and in Venice are
scheduled to demonstrate in addition to the school’s primary instructor.
The opportunity was originally offered to students who are enrolled at the college and since been offered
to a few other universities in the area. The maximum number of students is 12. Students will learn
different Italian glass techniques that have been regarded as secrets for years.
The students will have the opportunity to use the several types of glass processes offered at the school,
tour the local museum’s glass collections, and visit the several islands off the coast of Venice.
