Prep Roundup: BG girls, Eastwood boys win tournament (02-01-11)

Bowling Green’s girls and Eastwood’s boys won the Port Clinton High School bowling tournament on Saturday
at Harbor Lanes.
The Bobcat girls topped neighboring Eastwood in the finals, 187-182 and 189-175.
Eastwood’s boys topped Austintown Fitch in the title match. The Eagles’ John Przybylski rolled three
clutch strikes in the 10th frame of the final Baker game to win the championship by two pins. After
dropping the first game 191-200, the Eagles rebounded with a stellar 268-167 win in the second game and
the final 215-213 victory.
This year’s event drew 43 teams from primarily Northwest Ohio. The tournament was bowled on what
organizers called "a difficult scoring 41-foot Kegel lane pattern.
All teams bowled three regular team games plus five Baker games to determine the cut for the best two out
of three Baker game match play round.
Eight boys teams and four girls teams made the cut off both the morning and afternoon squads.
Eastwood’s girls, at 3,164 pins, led the morning squad followed by Bowling Green with 3,009. Tiffin
Columbian and Port Clinton also advanced from that squad. Austintown Fitch shot 3,298 to lead the
afternoon group, along with Bryan, Evergreen and Marion Harding.
The Bobcats swept both Columbian and Austintown Fitch, 2-0, to get to the championship match; while the
Eagles downed Evergreen and Bryan to advance.
For the boys, the Bobcats were the top squad in the morning at 3,482, followed by Eastwood at 3,472.
Rossford qualified sixth on that squad at 3,217. Others to advance from the morning were Cleveland St.
Ignatius, North Olmsted, Port Clinton, Gibsonburg and Woodmore.
Struthers led the afternoon squad at 3,735. Others advancing were Marion Harding, Austintown Fitch,
Willard, Fremont Ross, Wauseon and Huron.
The champion Eagles defeated, in order, Port Clinton, Rossford and Struthers to get to the title match.
Rossford defeated Bowling Green in the first match, two games to one, before losing to Eastwood, also by
a 2-1 margin.
Individual medalists were Mikayla Young from Eastwood with a 532 series and Chris Thom from St. Ignatius
with 632 on the morning squad. DeLorean Jones with 560 and Kyle Condrick with 608, both from Austintown
Fitch, earned the afternoon medallist honors.
Top scorers for the champion Bowling Green girls were Kelsey Hammersmith, with a 196 game in her 472
series; Patience Stockwell with a 173 game for 471. Elcipse Stockwell, 440, and Denise Miller, 179, 436,
added to the balanced scoring. Kelsey Parker completed the team with her 388. The Bobcats had team games
of 715, 757 and 735 for 2,207. They rolled 802 for their five Baker games.
Young had high games of 183 and 185 in her 532 series. Brandi Roller assisted Eastwood with her
consistent 490 series. The Eagles recorded the tournament-high 807 Baker series. The team games were
814, 748 and 795 for 2,357.
In the boys division, Przybylski led the champion Eagles in qualifying with games of 200 and 196 for a
555 series. Tommy Blanchard was close behind with a 194 high in his 551. Joining them on the
championship team were Derek Rucki (477), Jared Haas (472) along with Kyle Waynick and Keith Brandt.
Eastwood had team games of 836, 858 and 887 for 2,581. They added 891 in their five Baker games.
Cory Zalesak paced Rossford with three 170 games for 522. Austin Reynolds added a 215 in his 517 set; and
Will Hermes with 209 for 514. The Bulldogs had team games of 812, 734 and 876 for 2,422. They had 795 in
the Bakers.
Jon Saddler led the Bobcat boys with games of 206 and 207 for 587. Nick Jenne added a 194 game as the
team shot games of 867, 863 and 893 for 2,623. They totaled 859 in their Bakers.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Delta 54, Northwood 35
In Northwood, Delta jumped out to a 38-16 lead at halftime and cruised to the non-league victory.
Sammie Brisbin and Sandy Koch each scored 10 points to lead the Rangers, now 6-10 overall.
Alexa Salsbury paced Delta with 14 points.

WRESTLING
Bowling Green finished fifth out of nine teams at the Northern Lakes League tournament. Placing for the
Bobcats were: Nathan Spencer and Andrew Jewell each won individual titles; Mitch Cromley and Manny
Carrillo each finished third; and Raul Flores, Dakotah Burch, Brock Goris, Andrew Rava and Tyler Duron
each placed fourth.
SEVENTH GRADE
BOYS BASKETBALL
St. Aloysius improved to 5-2 with a 29-21 win over Toledo Queen of Apostles. Leaders for St. Aloysius
were: Austin Thurman, 13 points; and Michael Rochester, nine points.
Woodmore beat Eastwood, 36-20. Nick Coffman and Ryan Salazar were Eastwood’s leaders.
EIGHTH GRADE
GIRLS BASKETBALL
St. Aloysius defeated Toledo St. Benedict, 28-10. Camille Bratton led St. Aloysius, now 7-0 in league
play, with 14 points.
Bowling Green beat Perrysburg, 27-24. Leaders for BG were: Courtney Spears, Libby Dill, Kaleigh
Strasbaugh, and Hope Teggart.
SEVENTH GRADE
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Perrysburg improved to 5-1 with 40-8 victory over Bowling Green. Leaders for Perrysburg were: Emily Baer,
eight points; and Erika Joldrichsen, six points.
Otsego defeated Woodmore, 30-16, in the first round of the SLL tournament. Leaders for Otsego were:
Lauren Wynn and Morgan Smoyer.
