Jay D. Sheeks

Jay D. Sheeks, age 83, of North Baltimore, passed away at 12:39 p.m., Friday, January 28, 2011, at the
Bridge Hospice Care Center, Bowling Green.
Jay was born on January 13, 1928 to the late Jaurse F. and Dora E. (Eagleson) Sheeks, in Rudolph, Ohio.
Jay attended Portage Twp School, later served in the US Army, with a tour of duty in Korea.
Jay married Dorthea Lucille "Lucy" Russell on March 27, 1946, their children: Margaret (Gary)
Schooner, Linda (Doug) Oakes, Ronnie (Teri) Sheeks, Deb Sheeks, Randy (Terrill) Sheeks, and Rodney
(June) Sheeks. Jay and Lucille later divorced.
On December 7, 1963, Jay married Anne (Pelton) Bateson, their sons Tom (Carol) Bateson, and Larry (Carol)
Bateson. Jay and Anne enjoyed their 46-year marriage, where they combined and raised their family,
enjoying their 29 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren. Jay is also survived by two sisters Thelma
(Grover) Wires and Geraldine (Don) Gonyer.
Jay was preceded in death by Anne in December of 2009 and a son Roger in July of 1986, along with
brothers: Melvin, and Dallas (Peter), sisters: Edith Moses and Beva Kiger.
Jay worked at the Daybrook-Ottawa Plant for 27 years, before it closed; he then started and operated his
own excavating business, for several years.
Jay enjoyed hunting and fishing, and raising a wide variety of animals.
The family would like to thank and praise the doctors, nurses and staff of Briar Hill Health Campus, The
Wood County Hospital, and to Doctor D. Hess and Doctor Kuebeck for their willingness to go beyond
attending to Jay, by sharing their knowledge to guide the family.
And a very special thank you, to those at Bridge Hospice in Bowling Green, though Jay’s stay was brief,
your care and guidance was truly felt.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, North
Baltimore. Pastor Rick Adams will be officiating, with burial to follow at Weaver Cemetery, Bloom
Township, Wood County, Ohio. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, January 31,
2011 at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, North Baltimore.
