Chris Young to headline
fair concert

Expect to hear voices at this year’s Wood County Fair. Specifically, the song "Voices" by Chris
Young.
At Thursday’s Senior Fair Board meeting, it was announced Young will be the headline act for the
traditional Saturday night concert at the Wood County Fair. Steel Magnolia will open the concert.
"Voices" is Young’s current single which is number five on the Billboard country chart this
week. It also has reached 55 on the "Hot 100" chart. The hit song, which was co-written by the
artist, tells a poignant story of how he hears the voices of family members reminding him how to live an
upright life.
His previous two releases, "Gettin’ You Home (The Black Dress Song)" and the title song from
his CD, "The Man I Want to Be," both hit the top spot on the country chart.
Young is gradually moving from being an opening act to the headline act such as he will be on Aug. 6. He
recently has opened for such country standouts as Rascal Flatts and Blake Shelton. He previously toured
with Martina McBride.
Though performing prior, the rising star burst onto the country music scene in 2006 as the winner of the
"Nashville Star" cable television series and was signed to a recording contract with RCA.
Young hails from Murfreesboro, Tenn., near Nashville. He was pursuing a degree in music from Middle
Tennessee State University in his hometown, when he put his education on hold to try a musical career.

His official biography echoes what others have said about Young, that he "honors country music’s
best traditions while adding a fresh new chapter to the genre’s legacy."
Young describes his heroes as Keith Whitley and Randy Travis. He also was thrilled when another hero,
Willie Nelson, joined him for a duet on his second release as they sing, "Rose in Paradise," a
cover of a Waylon Jennings classic.
His baritone voice rings strong and true through songs which often tell a story.
According to his biography, one such song, "’The Dashboard,’ tells the story of a young Marine
heading off to war and leaving his beloved truck with his brother telling him ‘If I don’t come back, you
can have this Ford, just tape a picture of me on the dashboard.’ The song ends on a happy note with the
Marine coming home but Young’s performance builds the sense of suspense in the lyric and then delivers
the emotional punch in the payoff line."
Young has earned several country music award nominations including best new male vocalist and best male
vocalist.
He won the Nationwide Is On Your Side award at the CMT Music Awards event.
By the time Young entertains at the Wood County Fairgrounds he will have celebrated his 25th birthday.
Though he is still young, he is a talented and seasoned musician, songwriter and singer.
Dave Nietz, entertainment chairman for the fair board, was pleased with the combination of acts to
perform at this year’s concert. He is confident the fans will enjoy the show.
Steel Magnolia, like Young, has been nominated for several country music awards including "best new
duo."
Also like Young, they came into prominence after winning a television talent show. Meghan Linsey and her
boyfriend, Joshua Scott Jones won the second season (2009) of CMT’s "Can You Duet."
Their biggest hit to date, "Keep on Lovin’ You," reached the top five in November 2009.
Their first album, which is self-titled was just released this month. It debuted in the top 10 of both
the Billboard 200 and Billboard Top Country Albums in seventh and third, respectively.
As the fair board did last year, it has priced a special section of seats on the track directly in front
of the stage at $27.50 each. The remainder of the track reserved seats are $25, with grandstand seats
priced at $20.
Tickets go on sale April 16.
