Falcon women to start MAC West swing (01-21-11)

Bowling Green’s women’s basketball team starts its six-game swing through the Mid-American Conference
West on Saturday, hosting Central Michigan.
Tipoff is at 12:07 p.m. in Anderson Arena. The contest will be televised by SportsTime Ohio, and also
will air on ESPN3.com and ESPN Full Court.
The contest is a throwback game with the Falcons wearing jerseys modeled after the jerseys from the
mid-1980s. General admission tickets are $1 for the game and there are also special prices on selected
concession stand items.
The Falcons are 16-2 overall and 4-1 in the MAC East after a 71-61 victory over Buffalo Tuesday.
The coaching staff gave the team a day off on Wednesday.
Lauren Prochaska leads the Falcons in scoring (20.3 ppg) and rebounding (5.9 per game). Prochaska scored
30 points in the win over Buffalo and now has 2,065 career points which is eighth on the MAC career
list. Prochaska needs 58 points to become BG’s career scoring leader.
Tracy Pontius is averaging 12.4 points and 4.2 assists per game.
SCOUTING CMU: If there was any question, Central Michigan proved it’s for real closing Wednesday’s game
with Toledo on a 16-3 run to post a 78-74 win over the Rockets. Both teams are now 4-1 in the MAC West.

"I thought, if we could stop turning the ball over, attack the basket and play better defensively we
could come back. And we did," CMU head coach Sue Guevara said.
The difference in the contest proved to be the bench, where Central Michigan’s reserves held a 31-10
scoring edge. Taylor Johnson, a 5-feet-11 freshman, provided the biggest spark off the bench with 24
points, including a 6-of-9 effort on 3-pointers.
For the season, Johnson is averaging 10.2 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.
The Chippewas, 12-5 overall, are one of the highest scoring teams in the nation, averaging 84 points per
game with five players averaging in double figures.
Shonda Long, a 5-9 senior, is averaging 16.5 ppg; Kaihla Szunko, a 6-1 senior, is averaging 15.4 points
and 11.2 rebounds per game; Brandie Baker, a 6-0 sophomore, is averaging 13.8 points, 7.4 rebounds, and
5.3 assists per game; and Niki DiGuillio, a 5-8 freshman, is averaging 11.6 ppg.
Szunko now has 12 double-doubles after scoring 14 points and grabbing 12 rebounds against Toledo.
DiGuillio and Johnson are the top two scoring freshmen in the MAC and Johnson is the top rebounding
freshman.
