BG’s Prochaska reaches 2,000-point milestone

Many thought the milestone would come on a 3-point shot since Bowling Green’s Lauren Prochaska is one of
the more proficient 3-point shooters in Mid-American Conference history.
Heading into Wednesday night’s game against Akron, Prochaska needed six points to become the second
Falcon and 10th player in MAC history to score 2,000 career points.
However, it was a short jump shot in the lane that hit the front rim and got the shooter’s roll with 9:56
to play in the first half Wednesday night against Akron that pushed Prochaska over 2,000 points. At the
next timeout, BG coach Curt Miller presented Prochaska with the game ball.
The Falcons went on to post a 90-72 victory.
“It was an honor to be recognized on the court,” Prochaska said. “After it happened I wasn’t expecting it
so that was exciting … It just kind of happened and it was over.
“The main thing was to try to focus on the game and try to get a win because that was a great team and
that was a battle tonight.”
Prochaska finished with 28 points, making 11-of-16 shots from the floor, including 4-of-7 on threes, and
2-of-2 from the free-throw line. Prochaska also had three assists, three steals, one block and three
turnovers while playing 37 minutes.
“Lauren hit open shots, she was aggressive,” Miller said. “We ran more plays tonight through her. Sixteen
shots are high for her. But we needed her, we needed her to be efficient. The way they (Akron) were
guarding, our guards were going to get more shots tonight.
“A great accomplishment. Not very many people in the country score 2,000 points. She’s a special player,”
Miller added.
With her 28 points against Akron, Prochaska is now ninth in the MAC with 2,022 points. Kim Kurth (Toledo,
1995-99) is the all-time MAC leader with 2,509 points. Jackie Motycka (1985-89) is BG’s career leader
with 2,122 points. — CARLE
