Controversial film ‘The Cove’ to be screened in Perrysburg
PERRYSBURG – The Way Public Library will show the Academy Award-winning 2009 best documentary feature
"The Cove" Jan. 20 at 10:30 a.m. in the lower level of the library as part of its new
"Reel Opinions" film series,
The documentary tells the story of an elite team of activists, filmmakers and divers who embark on a
secret mission to penetrate a remote cove in Japan reveal the capture and killing of dolphins there. The
film prompted large scale demonstrations by nationalist groups when distributors screened it in Japan.
Several exhibitors backed out before it finally was shown in July.
An opportunity for discussion will follow after the conclusion of the 95-minute film.
Refreshments will be served.
‘Master’ drawing class offered
Local artist Dan Mauk will offer a "master" drawing class Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. starting
Jan. 19 at art-a-site! gallery, 116 S. Main St., Bowling Green.
Each week the class will re-create a master drawing. Cost of classes is $20 per session. Call (419)

Baker band at Howard’s
The Joe Baker Band will perform Friday at 7 to 10 p.m. at Howard’s Club H, 210 N. Main St., Bowling
Green.
The band includes Joe Baker, guitar and vocals, Bob Manley, saxophone,, flute and keyboards, Tim Berry,
bass and vocals, and Wayne Smith, drums with special guest John Johnson on guitar.
No cover.
Machine Gun Kelly in concert
Cleveland rapper Machine Gun Kelly will perform Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Cla-Zel, 127 N. Main St.,
Bowling Green.
He will be joined by special guests OLU, Fetti Boi, Mr. Defoe and Cameron Grey.
Advance tickets for the Clazel Entertainment event are $12 and day of show tickets start at $15. Doors
open at 7 p.m.
Detroit comic headlines
Kevin Zeoli, from Detroit, will headline Comedy Night Tuesday at 9 p.m. at Grumpy Dave’s, 104 S. Main
St., Bowling Green.
Andy Beningo will open the show.
Tickets are $5 and $3 for students.
Way library film series continues with ‘La Strada’
PERRYSBURG – The classic film "La Strada" will be shown Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. at Way Public Library
as part of its Art & Foreign Film series.
The 1954 Italian film is considered to be director Federico Fellini’s masterpiece. Starring the
director’s wife Masina and Anthony Quinn, the film tells the story of a simple-minded girl sold to a
coarse traveling circus showman. Richard Basehart plays a young acrobat who alters the naive girl’s
life. The picture won the Oscar for best foreign film in 1956.
"La Strada" will be projected with English subtitles.
Celebration of life to be held for Murphy’s Place co-owner
TOLEDO – A celebration of the life of Joan Russell, co-owner of Murphy’s Place, will be held Sunday from
3 to 8 p.m. at the club at 151 Water St.
Ms. Russell, who died Jan. 2, first opened the club with jazz bassist Clifford Murphy in 1991.

Rep offers theatrical romp
TOLEDO – The Toledo Rep is staging the Moss Hart theatrical comedy "Light Up the Sky" weekends
starting Friday and continuing through Jan. 30 at the Tenth Street Stage, 16 10th St,
Showtimes are at 8 p.m. on Jan. 14, 15, 21, 22, 27, 28 and 29 with 2:30 matinees Jan. 23 and 30.
Tickets are: $18; $16 for seniors, $10 for students 13 and older; and $5 for Students 12 and younger.
‘Dark Visions’ on exhibit at Collingwood Arts Center
TOLEDO – The Collingwood Arts Center, 2413 Collingwood Blvd., is exhibiting "Dark Visions 2,"
an edgy photographic odyssey curated by Boyd Hambleton.
Featured artists include Hambleton, Alan Klem, Art Schotz, Conceptually Black, Janey Avalon, Chris Maher,
Jeff Beach, Lore-li Photography, Melissa Marie Graden Reva May, Angela K. Rough, and BeeBs.
The exhibit continues through Jan. 28.
