Forward commits to Falcon hockey
Ted Pletsch, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound left wing, has verbally committed to play college hockey at Bowling
Green next season.
Pletsch, who is from Canton, Mich., is in his third season with the Pembroke Lumber Kings in the Central
(Ontario) Junior Hockey League.
He has 42 goals, 29 assists and 76 penalty minutes in 140 regular-season games and 10 goals and two
assists in 34 playoff games with the Lumber Kings.
This season, he has 14 goals, 14 assists and 26 penalty minutes in 39 games. He’s scored five
short-handed goals.
Pletsch, who turns 21 in April, is the son of Central Collegiate Hockey Association associate
commissioner Fred Pletsch.
Ted Pletsch is BG’s sixth recruit for next season. The recruits consist of three forwards, two defensemen
and one goalie. – GORDON
BG gymnasts win
Bowling Green’s gymnastics team defeated Illinois-Chicago, 190.225-185.525, at home Sunday.
BG won first place on all four events and the all-around.
BG’s Dawn Christman took the overall title, finishing with a combined score of 38.425.
Winners for the Falcons were: Danielle Wishart, vault, 9.850; Sunny Marchand, uneven bars, 9.625; Monica
Eaton, balance beam, 9.450; and Christman, floor, 9.775.
Owens women open OCCAC with win
The Owens Community College women’s basketball team opened Ohio Community College Athletic Conference
play with a 100-67 win over Sinclair on Saturday.
Owens’ Nasumbi Beard tied a school record with a 9-of-9 shooting performance from the floor, which ties
the single-game field goal percentage record (minimum of seven attempts). She finished with a team-high
22 points.
Aja Hall added 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Express, 15-3 overall. Owens is ranked No. 6 in the
NJCAA Division II poll.
Owens men fall OCCAC opener
Owens’ men’s basketball team fell to Sinclair, 82-66, at home Saturday. The Express are 6-12 overall and
0-1 in the OCCAC.
Cal Edwards led the Express with 16 points. Tommy Kralovic, a Rossford High School graduate, added 10
points, five rebounds, and five assists for Owens.
