College Scene: Chris Lemon wins A-10 CC title

Chris Lemon, a Bowling Green resident, is a junior on the University of Dayton cross country team.
Lemon won the individual Atlantic-10 championship, finishing the 8-kilometer race in a time of 26:13.3 at
St. Louis, Mo. Lemon’s finish helped the Flyers take third as a team, the best-ever finish for Dayton in
29 years of competition.
Lemon also led Dayton at the NCAA Great Lakes regional, finishing 43rd overall in a time of 32:19.5 in
the 10-K race.
Lemon placed first for the Flyers in every meet the team competed in this season. He was named the
conference’s performer of the week five different times this season.
Lemon has also excelled in the classroom, being named the A-10 student athlete of the year. Lemon has a
3.9 cumulative grade-point average and is majoring in Spanish education with a minor in math.
Lemon graduated from Toledo St. John’s High School.
Matt Lemon, a Bowling Green resident, is a junior on the University of Dayton cross country team.
Matt Lemon finished ninth overall at the Atlantic 10 championships, finishing the 8K race in a time of
27:06.1 and earning all-conference honors.
Matt Lemon finished 68th overall in a time of 32:49.2 at the NCAA regionals. He finished in the top three
runners for Dayton throughout the season.
Matt Lemon has a 3.9 cumulative GPA. Matt Lemon is majoring in electrical engineering with a minor in
Spanish. He was named to the A-10’s Academic All-Conference team.
Matt Lemon and Chris Lemon are twins brothers.
Caroline Powers, from Bowling Green High School, is a freshman on the Michigan State women’s golf team.

Powers and the Spartans recently finished a successful fall season. Powers finished with the second-best
18-hole average for Michigan State at 74.08. Michigan State was ranked No. 5 in the Golfweek and
Golfstat rankings.
Powers tied for fifth at the Lady Northern Invitational and led MSU at the NCAA Preview with a 225. She
is ranked 64th among Division I women’s golfers according to the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings.
Powers is majoring in elementary education.
Kristen Barr, from Bowling Green High School, is a junior on the Kent State volleyball team.
Barr, a defensive specialist/libero, played in 31 matches for the Golden Flashes, finishing with a
team-high 434 digs to go along with 66 assists.
Kent State finished 14-17 overall.
Barr is majoring in communications with a minor in marketing.
Alan Bowsher, from Elmwood High School, is a senior on the Ohio Northern men’s cross country team.
Bowsher recently completed his season by finishing 76th out of 276 runners at the NCAA Division III men’s
cross country championships. He finished the 8K race in a time of 26:35.
Bowsher was fourth overall to lead ONU to seventh-place finish at the Great Lakes regionals.
Devin Butcher, from Bowling Green High School, is a senior on the Heidelberg men’s cross country team.

Butcher led Heidelberg at the NCAA Division III cross country championships, finishing 81st overall in a
time of 26:37.8 in the 8K race.
Butcher earned the fourth all-regional honor of his career when he finished fifth overall at the Great
Lakes regionals.
Brittany Dunn, from Bowling Green High School, is a junior on the Oakland University volleyball team.
In 27 matches played Dunn led the team with 470 digs and 30 service aces to go along with 64 assists.
Oakland finished the season 17-10 overall and 10-8 in the Summit League.
T.J. Fatinikun, from Perrysburg High School, is a freshman on the University of Toledo football team.
Fatinikun, a defensive end, has played in 10 of 11 games for the Rockets. He has 17 total tackles
including two sacks and three tackles for loss. Fatinikun has also forced three fumbles and recovered
one.
Logan Riker, from Bowling Green High School, is a freshman on the Quinnipiac University volleyball team.

Riker played in all 29 matches for Quinnipiac, recording a team-high 406 digs to go along with 55 assists
and 21 kills.
The Bobcats finished the season 4-25 overall.
Erik Hoops, from Perrysburg High School, is a sophomore on the Loyola-Chicago men’s golf team.
Hoops played 16 rounds for the Ramblers, averaging 74.8 per 18 holes and shooting a low score of 67.
Hoops finished seventh overall individually at the John Piper Invitational hosted by BGSU.
Tommy Harman, from Perrysburg High School, is a senior on the Ohio Wesleyan University men’s golf team.

Harman ranked fourth on the team with an 18-hole average of 77.3. He was also named North Coast Athletic
Conference player of the week after earning medalist honors in the NCAC Fall Invitational.
Jordan Fortney, from Bowling Green High School, is a junior on the West Liberty (W. Va.) basketball team
this season.
Through the first three games this season, Fortney is averaging 13.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.0
assists.
Justin Henck, from Otsego High School, is a junior on the Ohio Northern University football team.
Henck, a defensive back, finished with 19 total tackles and one interception. He also had four pass
break-ups and recovered a fumble.
The Polar Bears finished the season 8-2 and ranked No. 13 in the D3Football.com poll, but did not qualify
for the D-III playoffs.
Kelsey Rader, from Bowling Green High School, is a freshman on the Ohio State-Marion volleyball team.
Rader, an outside hitter, was named All-Ohio Collegiate Athletic Conference second-team.
The Scarlet Wave finished with a 30-21 record, winning the inaugural OCAC championships with an 11-1
record. The team finished in seventh place in the USCAA national championship tournament.
Ashton Dennen, from Otsego High School, is a freshman on the Ohio Northern women’s cross country team.

Dennen had ONU’s seventh-best time at the NCAA regionals, finishing 120th overall out of 231 runners.
Zane Polack, from Bowling Green High School, is a senior on the Gannon College men’s soccer team this
fall.
Polack, a midfielder, played in 17 matches, recording one goal and an assist.
Gannon finished the season 6-10-2 overall.
Jamie Dollar, from Perrysburg High School, is a freshman defender on the Ashland University’s men’s
soccer team.
Dollar played in 11 matches for the Eagles, making four starts.
Ashland finished 12-4-5 overall and fell in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
Sam Jaffee, from Bowling Green High School, is a senior on the Olivet College men’s swimming and diving
team.
Jaffee was recently named to the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Academic Honor Roll.
