NORTH BALTIMORE — Youth is a wonderful thing.
For the North Baltimore girls basketball team, however, too much youth could be problematic.
A young team will look to continue its improvement under second-year head coach Greg Frost, led by an
up-and-coming sophomore class.
“It’s very similar to where we were last year, only now we have a bunch of sophomores instead of bunch of
freshmen,” Frost said. “Last year, we inherited the team after the summer was over, so now we’ve had a
good full year of our program.”
NB finished 5-16 overall and 3-7 in the Midland Athletic League last season. The Tigers scored an average
of 39.0 points per game while allowing an average of 51.8.
However, unimpressive those numbers might be, it was actually a vast improvement for the Tigers. NB had
won a total of five games in its previous three seasons.
“We made a huge improvement. Every statistical category that we chart, we improved in,” Frost said. “We
definitely should be more competitive. We should move up in our league.”
NB features nine returning letter winners on its 13-player roster, with eight of the spots occupied by
sophomores and freshmen.
The sophomores returning are: Jessica Casey (5-foot-2, guard), Chloe Hamlin (5-0, guard), Jessica Frost
(5-10, forward), and Rachel Flores (5-6, guard).

However, Frost will be looking to his three seniors on the roster — guard Brittany Tellez (5-3), forward
Ariel Cohen (5-9), and center Brianna Potter (6-0) to lead the young team.
“They’re still sophomores … They’re still going to make young mistakes,” Frost said. “Our older girls
are making those same mistakes right now. That’s what we’ve got to get rid of before the season starts.”

“We need some leadership our of our seniors to kind of guide this young team along,” he added.
Juniors Taylor Boyer (5-3, guard) and Leona Euler (5-7, forward) round out the returning letter winners.

Frost said the team will truly be an “effort by committee” and no one player is expected to be the
“go-to” player. No returning player averaged more than seven points per game last season.
“There’s no 20 (points)-10’s (rebounds) out there. What we need is for them to learn their roles and
perform their roles better,” Frost said. “We’re going to need to score by committee.”
The team played a 40-game schedule over the summer in various tournaments and shootouts, something that
coach Frost believes will be beneficial to the team.
“Our first game isn’t our first game this year, it’s our 41st game,” Frost said.
“We’ve had some really good moments and we’ve had some competitive scrimmages, so we’re excited about
that.”
