Mary A. Marks, 91, a former South Florida elementary school teacher, symphony musician, and a long-time
Ohio resident, died peacefully in Toledo, Ohio, Saturday, October 31, 2009 after a brief illness.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Fredric Marks of Toledo; son Eric Marks of Edmonton, Alberta;
daughter Valrie Kantorski of Toledo; sister Margaret Nelson of San Antonio, Texas; plus five
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A private family service will be held to celebrate Mary’s life.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to a charity.
The second of four children, Mary was born June 17, 1918, in Central City, Kentucky.
She attended the University of Miami (Florida) receiving a degree in music education in 1940, and played
double bass in the Miami Philharmonic, the Ft. Lauderdale Symphony Orchestra, and the Greater Miami
Opera Orchestra.
She also taught school at Shenandoah Elementary in Miami, and was an avid world traveler, nature lover,
and art enthusiast.
Fred and Mary moved to Bowling Green, Ohio in 1985 to be near their extended family.
