Five departments fight house fire in Dowling

Firefighters from five area departments responded Monday to a house fire in Dowling that caused the roof
to collapse.
The volunteer department was dispatched at about 1:30 p.m. to the 10488 Maple St. home – located about
eight miles northeast of Bowling Green in the community of Dowling – for a report by the homeowners of
smoke. Fire Chief Steve Asmus said this morning that flames and smoke were visible upon arrival.
Eventually, the roof collapsed through the attic and two lower floors.
"It’s, I would say, probably going to be a total loss," Asmus said.
No residents or firefighters were harmed during the incident, and crews had the fire under control by
about 3 that afternoon. Assisting were departments from Middleton, Washington, Troy, Pemberville-Freedom
and Bowling Green.
Asmus said the fire began in the wall near the wood burner, but the cause remains under investigation.

The homeowners noticed smoke after returning from errands, then left the home and reported the fire.
Asmus said the home was insured and an adjustor will be conducting an investigation today.
Earlier Monday afternoon Cygnet and Bloomdale firefighters extinguished a garage fire in Cygnet.
