In Memoriam: Robert Allen Derrick, 1924-2009
Born in Cleveland in 1924 to Ruth Kuehnel Derrick and Reverend Robert Lincoln Derrick, Bob spent his
early life in Zanesville and Nashport in southern Ohio. He graduated from Zanesville’s Lash High School
In 1943.
He served in the US Army Air Force from 1944 through 1947.
He was married to Ruth Ann Zeigler on May 26, 1951. They had two children.
Bob worked at several local industries over the years, spending the later part of his career as a welder
for the Lima Tank Plant, from which he retired in 1986.
He was a 60-year member of the St. James United Methodist Church; active in the choir, and other church
activities, he held several church offices over the years. He became the church custodian in 1989 and
served in that capacity until August of 2009. He was a member of the North Baltimore Lions Club for many
years and contributed to many of the club’s efforts, such as the eye care drive, and in various roles,
including club president.
Bob’s lifelong interests were aviation, bird watching, breeding and raising fish, music, and gardening.

He is survived by his wife Ruth; daughter and son-in-law Cherie Derrick and Terry Greenlaw of Kennesaw,
Georgia; son and daughter-in-law David Derrick and Rita Chow of Fairview, Texas; brother and
sister-in-law James and Joan Derrick of Holland, Ohio; brother and sister-in-law Paul and Alice Derrick
of San Antonio, Texas; and dear friends, Lauren, Kristan, and Aryn Bucher of North Baltimore, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his younger sister Esther.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 22 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME,
North Baltimore.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 23 at the St. James United Methodist Church,
followed by a graveside service at Bethel Cemetery.
Bob asked that memorial contributions go to St. James United Methodist Church and the North Baltimore
Public Library.
