Weaver, Vickio win sectional tennis titles

Perrysburg’s April Weaver and Bowling Green’s Beth Vickio both won Division I sectional tennis
championships Saturday.
Both will play in the district tournament later this week.
DIVISION I
Weaver beats Hayes for title
At Toledo’s Jermain Park, Weaver earned her championship by defeating teammate Samantha Hayes in the
finals. Weaver won the match, 6-2, 6-2.
Both Weaver and Hayes advance to the district tournament at Sandusky High School Oct. 15.
Perrysburg’s two doubles team also faced off against each other in the consolation finals, as Cammy
Messenger and Megan Roberts defeated Maddy Karnitis and Erin Reese, 6-4, 6-1, to claim third place. Both
teams advance to districts.
The top four singles players and top four teams from each sectional advanced to districts.
BG’s Vickio takes first with win over Telecky
At Ohio Northern University, Vickio won the sectional title by defeating teammate Maddie Telecky in the
finals, 6-1, 6-1.
Vickio beat Findlay’s Lindsey Barlett, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, to reach the finals. Telecky defeated Allison James
of Marion Harding, 7-5, 3-6, 6-1, to reach the finals.
Both Vickio and Telecky advance to the district tournament at Sandusky High School Oct. 15.
Also advancing to districts for BG was the doubles team of Stephanie Motsinger and Bethany Hoehner. In
the semifinals, the team lost to Anthony Wayne’s Maureen McCormick and Kendall Krieg, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1; but
then defeated Ricki Oen and Makenzie Klock of Wapakoneta, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, in the consolation finals.
DIVISION II
Rossford advance one player
At Archbold High School, Rossford’s Hanah Saleh advanced to the district tournament by reaching the
semifinals Thursday.
The top four singles players and four doubles team advanced to districts at Port Clinton Oct. 14.
On Saturday, Saleh lost in the semifinals to Bryan’s Meredith McDonagh, 6-0, 6-0. Saleh then lost in the
consolation finals to Bryan’s Erin McDonagh, 6-2, 6-3.
