Barnes earns national award
The College Football Performance Awards announced Sunday that Bowling Green’s Freddie Barnes has been
named the national wide receiver of the week and Tyler Sheehan earned honorable mention at quarterback
as the duo hooked up for three touchdowns and a handful of school records on Saturday night in Kent.
Barnes had 22 catches for 278 yards (both school records) and three touchdowns. The 22 catches were one
shy of the NCAA record. Barnes recorded receptions of 45, 53 and 55 yards and added nine yards on the
ground on three carries.
Sheehan, like Barnes, set several school records. He was 44-of-63 for 505 yards (all school records) and
added four touchdowns.
Sheehan scampered in for a 9-yard touchdown run with five seconds remaining in the game to secure a 36-35
win at Kent State.
BG volleyball loses to Kent
KENT – The Bowling Green State University volleyball team dropped to 0-6 in the Mid-American Conference,
losing to Kent State on Saturday, 25-18, 25-21, 25-20. The Falcons are 7-13 overall. Kent State is
10-10, 3-3.
Leaders for BG were: Kaitlin Jackson, nine kills, seven digs; Allison Kearney, 25 assists, 11 digs; and
Shari Luther.
Kristen Barr, a Bowling Green High School graduate, had two assists and seven digs for Kent State.
Falcon women’s soccer loses
Akron broke a 1-1 tie with less than two minutes remaining in regulation to defeat Bowling Green, 2-1 in
Mid-American Conference women’s soccer action Sunday. BG is 4-9-2 overall and 0-4-2 in the MAC.
Colleen Korden scored BG’s goal off a penalty kick. Goalie Alexa Arsenault made two saves.
Owens men’s soccer wins
The Owens Community College men’s soccer team defeated Monroe, 4-2, on Saturday. The Express are 7-5-1
overall.
Rodcliff Hall scored three goals and Jay Sesock scored once. Michael Hamouda had three assists.
Owens volleyball nets two wins
The Owens CC volleyball team defeated Sinclair on Friday, 25-21, 25-12, 25-16; and Muskegon on Saturday,
25-23, 26-24, 25-18. The Express are 23-13 overall and 6-1 in the Ohio Community College Athletic
Conference.
Leaders in the two matches for Owens were: Amanda Drew, 29 digs; Jessica Knueve, 20 digs; Brooke Hearn,
21 kills, 14 digs; Maureen Kurtz, 17 kills, five aces, five blocks; Shelby Schuster, 20 kills; and
Leigha Poulson, 73 assists, 15 digs.
