Lois Marie (Oehmke) Simmons passed away Friday, October 9, 2009 at Otterbein-Portage Valley under the
care of Hospice.
She was born December 30, 1922 in Pemberville, Ohio, to Henry W. and Ester (Ernsthausen) Oehmke. Lois
married Richard "Dick" Snyder on February 8, 1942, and he passed away on October 12, 1985. On
November 7, 1987, Lois married Rev. Robert L. Simmons and he survives.
Lois worked as a beautician at several shops in Pemberville and Bowling Green, retiring from Hairways in
1983.
She enjoyed sewing, fishing, crossword and word-search puzzles.
Lois had been a volunteer at St. Luke’s Hospital and was a member of Church of St. Andrew U.M.C. in
Toledo,
Surviving are her daughter, Carol (Dale) Melcher, Bowling Green, OH, and her son, Dana (Cathy) Snyder,
Fort Myers, FL: four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters,
Marcella Tornow, Walbridge, OH, and Aletha Michel, Stony Ridge, OH; brother, Dale Oehmke, Zephyrhills,
FL; stepdaughters, Judy Polverari, Nancy Gonzales and Karen Simmons. There are also three
stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Eunice Snyder and brother, Donald Oehmke.
Friends may call at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Ave., on Monday, October 12, 2009 from 2 to 8
p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Church of St. Andrew, 3620 Heatherdowns Blvd.
Entombment will follow in Restlawn Cemetery.
Memorials in Lois’ name may be given to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., Church of St. Andrew, St. Mark’s Lutheran
Church Organ Fund, Bowling Green or Otterbein-Portage Valley Retirement Center.
