Winebrenner focuses on addictions

FINDLAY – On Oct. 15 Winebrenner Theological Seminary will be presenting "Addicted to more than
Christ," a cutting edge seminar for the Christian community designed to help churches and
professional organizations recognize and develop a support plan for the victims of addiction and their
families.
Chris Hart, will be the presenter for this event which will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. on the seminary
campus.
"Addicted to more than Christ" bloomed out of Hart’s personal and professional struggles with
addiction. As a member of the pharmaceutical community and a recovering addict, Hart has seen first-hand
the growing need for awareness, acceptance, and support for addicts and their families within the
greater Christian community. It is his hope that through his professional knowledge and testimony he can
begin to help individuals understand positive ways that they can encourage and help the victims of
addiction in their lives remain on the path of recovery.
Some of the topics covered during Hart’s presentation will be symptoms of chemical dependency, theories
behind addiction, treatment options and goals of treatment, examples of daily treatment schedules, a
history of AA, and examination of each of the 12 steps of recovery. Hart will also discuss some of the
resources and outlets for addicts and their families to seek assistance.
Hart, a former pharmacist who became addicted to prescription drugs, now teaches courses in chemical
dependency awareness at five universities, often in the pharmacy or nursing programs.
His courses, created for future medical professionals, impart more than the "drugs are addictive and
you shouldn’t do them" message. Instead they provide a fresh look at what chemical dependency
really is and the available resources and networks for help. More importantly, they put a face on
addiction, that of a professional peer, and illustrate that even with knowledge about pharmaceuticals
and their side effects an educated person can still become addicted.
Cost of the event is $29 per person. Registration is required and can be made by contacting Jerome Glick
at (800) 992-4987. Registration deadline is Monday.
