Lake crowns homecoming royalty

MILLBURY – Jayna Kubuske and Cooper Mannon were crowned fall homecoming queen and king at ceremonies held
at Lake High School Friday.
Kubuske is the daughter of Jim and Jessie Kubuske, and Mannon is the son of Kathy Mannon.
Kubuske has been a varsity cheerleading for four years, and captain for two. She also been a twirler for
the marching band, a softball team member, and a cast member of the fall play for four years. Additional
activities include French club, Teen Institute, Helping Hands, student council, varsity club and pep
club for four years; and yearbook staff and chorale for two years. Kubuske is president of student
council. The senior hopes to twirl and study communications at an as-yet undecided college.
Mannon is a four-year member of marching, pep and concert bands; and a three-year member of the fall
play. This year he is a member of Tri-M and TGIF. He plans to attend Bowling Green State University and
major in music performance.
Senior finalists for queen and king included Katie Kranz, Spencer Genson, Makala Gonzalez, Scott Hartman,
Brianne Freeman, Zach Powell, Cassidy Burch and Michael Moon.
Kranz is the daughter of Ted and Cindy Kranz. She is a three-year member of National Honor Society and
French club, for which she is serving as treasurer this year. After graduation, she plans to study
pharmacy in college.
Genson is the son of Theresa Gilsdorf and Ron Genson. He is vice president and four-year member of
student council, and has served as president of his class all four years. He also is a four-year member
of Teen Institute, quiz bowl, the fall play, the spring musical, chorale and the a capella group
"Fill in the Blank." Genson plans to attend Ohio Northern University to major in psychology
then pursue a law degree.
Gonzalez, the daughter of Tracy Bengela and Jeremy Rowe, is a member of yearbook staff and pep club. She
plans to enroll at the University of Toledo or BGSU.
Hartman, son of Scott and Cindy Hartman, has played football and soccer for two years. He hopes to attend
BGSU to major in construction management.
Freeman has played voleyball and softball for four years, and basketball for two. She is senior class
secretary and member of student council, and is a three-year member of National Honor Society and is a
former HOBY representative. The senior is planning a career in dentistry.
Powell, son of Steve and Lori Powell, participates in track, cross country, National Honor Society and
Jefferson Award Committee. His future plans include college.
Burch is the daughter of Gary and Pam Burch. She plans to attend BGSU after graduation.
Moon is a four-year member of chorale and the basketball team. He has worked with the Junior Flyer
basketball clinic for two years, and has appeared in the school musical. He also is a member of
"Fill in the Blank." The son of Joe and Gina Moon, the senior’s future plans also include
college.
Five additional senior couples were in the homecoming court, but were not finalists for queen and king.
They included Tess Steedman, Derek Carr, Morgan Steck, Ryan Hotmer, Kristen Lehman, Alex Cordell, Rachel
Fabian, Benjamin Hotz, Katie Everhardt and Greg Grove.
The court also included junior attendants Emily Whitmore and Adam Kocian; sophomore attendants Hanna Cox
and Dylan Hirzel; and freshmen attendants Sara Mendoza and Ronnie Cope.
This year’s crown bearers were Jaelyn Braden, daughter of Jay and Kelly Braden and a first-grader at
Walbridge Elementary; and Jaxon Delventhal, son of Brad and Renee Delventhal and also a first-grader at
Walbridge.
Last year’s homecoming royalty, Heather Cox and Matt Smith, assisted in crowning the 2009 court.
