TODAY
"Swoon," director Tom Kalin’s 1992 take on the 1924 Leopold and Loeb murder case, will be
screened at 7:30 p.m. in the Gish Film Theater in Hanna Hall.
WEDNESDAY
Pianist Prisca Benoit and Dr. Kamal Chemali, a neurologist at the Cleveland Clinic, will present a
concert-lecture, "When Music Sings, the Brain Listens and the Heart Modulates," at 8 p.m. in
Bryan Recital Hall of Moore Musical Arts Center. The program will ­cover the effects of music on the
autonomic nervous system and include works by Johannes Brahms, Frederic Chopin, Antonio Scarlatti and
Sergei Rachmaninoff.
THURSDAY
Pianist Prisca Benoit will lead a master class from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Bryan Recital Hall.
Ben Percy, a BGSU College of Arts and Sciences Visiting Writer, will read from his work at 7:30 p.m. in
Prout Chapel on the Bowling Green campus. Percy, who teaches creative writing in the master of fine arts
program at Iowa State University, is the author of a novel and two books of short stories. His fiction
and nonfiction have been read on National Public Radio, performed at Symphony Space and published by
Esquire and the Chicago Tribune, among other publications.
Student Jazz Combos will perform at 8 p.m. in Bryan Recital Hall.
THURSDAY-SUNDAY
"Burning Patience," by Antonio Skármeta, will be presented by the Department of Theatre and
Film in the Joe E. Brown Theatre in University Hall Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Saturday
and Sunday at 2 p.m. Sara Chambers, an instructor of theatre and film, will direct the production, which
may not be suitable for all audiences. Tickets are $12 and $5 for senior citizens.Call (419)372-2719.

FRIDAY
Graphic designer Mark Murphy, a BGSU graduate and principal of Murphy Design Inc., will discuss his
recent work in a BGSU ARTalk at 5 p.m. in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union Theater.
The Wind Symphony, Concert Band and University Band will perform at 8 p.m. in Kobacker Hall of the Moore
Musical Arts Center.
SATURDAY
The Young People’s Concert Series at College of Musical Arts opens with "Clarinet Collage" at
11 a.m. in Bryan Recital Hall. The BGSU clarinet studio will feature the clarinet family in a special
storytelling concert, recommended for children ages 5 and older. Tickets, $2 for adults and $1 for
children, will be available at the door 30 minutes before the performance.
SUNDAY
Violinist Penny Thompson Kruse and pianist Thomas Rosenkranz will present "Made in the USA"
including works by John Adams, Eric Ewazen and Lukas Foss at 3 p.m. in Bryan Recital Hall. Trumpeter
Charles Saenz will assist on the program.
OCT. 5
Carolyn Putney, curator of Asian art at the Toledo Museum of Art, will discuss additions to the museum’s
Asian collection in a BGSU ARTalk at 6 p.m. in 1101 Fine Arts Center.
A reception for an exhibition of "Works from the Fine Arts Center Collection" will be held at
7:30 p.m. in the center’s galleries foyer.
OCT. 6
NEXUS, a Toronto-based percussion ensemble, will conduct a master class from 7 to 9 p.m. in Kobacker
Hall. Formed in 1971, the group primarily performs contemporary classical music, although world music
and 1920s xylophone rags are also in its repertoire.
Student work in recent film production courses in Department of Theatre and Film will be featured in
"Cine-Posium," part of the Tuesdays at the Gish series at 7:30 p.m. in the Gish Film Theater.
Screenings of individual and group projects by film majors will be accompanied by discussions that will
include feedback from film faculty members and question-and-answer periods.
"Music from Bowling Green at the Manor House" opens with a concert by clarinet students from
the BGSU studio of Kevin Schempf at 7:30 p.m. in Toledo’s Wildwood Metropark Manor House.
AT THE GALLERIES
"UpScaled/DownSized," an exhibition of drawings and paintings by 14 artists who portray big
subjects in small formats, continues through Sunday in the Willard Wankelman Gallery. None of the art in
the exhibit is larger than one square foot. A juried exhibition of high school artwork from northwest
Ohio and southeast Michigan, "FOCUS" continues through Sunday in the Dorothy Uber Bryan
Gallery. The exhibit features 286 accepted entries from students at 26 schools. Fine Arts Center gallery
hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, 6-9 p.m. Thursdays and 1-4 p.m. Sundays.
