Historical museum seeks to ‘mend fences’ with online project

The Wood County Historical Center & Museum has launched a digital photography gallery at
www.flickr.com as part of the programming leading up to its third Smithsonian traveling exhibit.
Through May 2010, the general public is welcome to submit digital photographs of local fences for public
display on the museum’s "Fences on Flickr" public Web site at www.flickr.com/photos/infirmary.
Submitted images will be available for public viewing and will be highlighted alongside the museum’s
traveling exhibit "Between Fences," which will run April 9 to May 7, 2010 at the historical
center and museum in Bowling Green.
The Wood County Historical Museum is planning a variety of additional programming to create an awareness
of our own fences in Wood County and Northwest Ohio.
"Between Fences" is a traveling exhibition that explores how tightly the fence is entwined with
American history, politics, industry, and daily life. Topics may include how fences create tension and
division between classes, ethnic groups, or religions; literal and metaphorical fences; or how fences
preserve the peace or amplify tensions among neighbors. Expect to see additional programming in local
schools and throughout the community touching on the importance of fences in our lives.
Photography enthusiasts may submit digital photographs of fences or boundaries in Wood County to
[email protected]. No experience necessary. Complete rules and regulations are available
online at www.woodcountyhistory.org or by calling (419) 352-0967.
