Henry Carl Matthes Jr., 64, of North Baltimore, died at 5:42 p.m., Tuesday, September 22, 2009, at the
Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus.
He was born on November 8, 1944, in Findlay to the late Henry C., Sr. and Dorothy (Osenbaugh) Matthes. He
married Eloise P. (Williamson) on June 4, 1971, and she survives.
Also surviving are his sons: Henry Carl (Arica) Matthes III, Anthony Wayne Matthes and William Boyd
(Teresa) Matthes, all of North Baltimore; grandchildren: Henry Carl Matthes IV,; Bryant Andrew Matthes,
Olivia Danielle Matthes and Makayla Mae Matthes.
Henry retired in March of 2009, after 46 years of service as parts manager for Findlay
International/Buckeye Truck Center, Findlay.
He was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, North Baltimore. In August of this year he also retired
after 29 years from the North Baltimore Volunteer Fire Department, where he was formerly the secretary
and treasurer. Carl also had formerly served on the North Baltimore Auxiliary Police Department.
He was a former Boy Scout Leader and was a member of the Northwest Ohio Volunteer Firefighter Assoc.,
Moose Lodge 1533 and Fraternal Order of Eagles 3615 in Indian Lake, and the Rocky Ford CB Club. He was
also a former member of the Henry Township Zoning Committee.
Carl loved serving the community of North Baltimore and spending time with his family, but his greatest
love in life was his grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 26, 2009, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church,
North Baltimore. Burial will be in New Maplewood Cemetery, North Baltimore.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, North Baltimore.
