Gleaning planned Saturday

The local Society of St. Andrew in cooperation wit the Maumee Watershed District is holding two gleaning
efforts on Saturday.
The first will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Agricultural Incubator Facility, 13737 Middleton Pike, Bowling
Green. At this site volunteers will gather excess tomatoes.
Then around noon, others will gather at Fall & Sons, 4919 South Ave, Toledo, to glean melons.
At both places, volunteers are urged to dress with long pants to avoid bugs and weeds. Also they should
wear shoes and socks incase "it’s a bit mucky out there."
Garden gloves help, and it is advised to bring water to drink Organizers will have gleaning waivers at
both sites.
For those not familiar, gleaners gather excess food items from fields and provide that food to local food
banks to help feed the hungry.
New volunteers are always welcome. The harvest is plenty, and the laborers are few.
