Bradner man tased during police scuffle

BRADNER – A follow-up on a traffic stop led to a man being tased during a tussle with sheriff’s deputies.

Brad Ruckstuhl, Wood County Sheriff’s deputy, said this morning that a Taser was used on Donald C. Wells,
30, of Bradner, when he resisted arrest Thursday while being cited for marijuana found in his car after
a traffic stop.
"He was just not being taken under control, and the fight was on – basically resisting and going all
over his house with us on top of him," Ruckstuhl said.
Ruckstuhl said Wells was stopped Thursday around the area of Bradner Road and U.S. 6 and was charged with
driving under the influence of drugs. He cooperated while being processed at the jail and was released
with a court date.
The deputy then went to Wells’ home at 207 N. Evans St. at about 6 p.m. to cite him for drug possession
due to drugs found in the vehicle. Upon arrival, Ruckstuhl said, Wells appeared to be under the
influence again and more drug paraphernalia was found during a subsequent investigation.
At that point, Wells began to resist arrest. Ruckstuhl said the threat level warranted use of the Taser,
which he said he had never previously needed to use.
"It was at the point where hand combat was not working," he said.
Wells was ultimately charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, drug abuse and resisting arrest.
He appeared via video arraignment on those charges – as well as for two other cases, involving charges of
marijuana, operating a vehicle while under the influence and lanes of travel upon roadways – in Bowling
Green Municipal Court this morning. The cases were continued for initial appearance with an attorney for
Oct. 5. Wells was released on his own recognizance.
