Gold Star Wives to meet
The Toledo Chapter of Gold Star Wives of America, Inc. will hold its next meeting Thursday at 5 p.m.

Gold Star Wives held their national convention in July in Laguna Hills, Calif. Area resident Nola
Whittington of Waterville was installed as president of the Midwest region, covering Ohio, Kentucky,
Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and West Virginia.
Purse auction to benefit YWCA
TOLEDO – The Secor Gallery at 425 Jefferson Ave. in downtown Toledo will host Bagnificent!, a purse
auction and Girls Night Out, to raise funds for YWCA of Greater Toledo.
Bagnificent! starts at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
The silent handbag auction will feature bags from as far away as London, New York and California, as well
as from local boutiques and artists. Bags range from Italian leather to intricate beading, and from
shiny patent to soft handspun yarn, reflecting every taste and budget.
An appetizer bar, beverages and raffles will top off the evening.
This is the fourth year for Bagnificent!, created as a fun event for women to come together, shop, have a
glass of wine and support the many worthy causes of the YWCA.
In Northwest Ohio, YWCA serves more than 15,000 women, children and families each year. Programs include
the Battered Women’s Shelter, H.O.P.E. Center for Sexual Assault Services, child care resource and
referral, youth development and programs to decrease teen pregnancies, ENCOREPlus breast cancer program
and HEARTPlus for heart health.

Goodwill trade-in sale begins Sept. 16
The semi-annual Goodwill Sale event at Elder-Beerman will be begin Wednesday and continue through Sept.
29.
The trade-in promotion is a collaboration between Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. and Goodwill Industries. Consumers
who donate clean, gently used clothing and home textiles at Elder-Beerman locations, including Bowling
Green’s Woodland Mall, will receive a coupon for every item they donate. The coupon offers 20 percent
off on apparel, shoes and accessories and 15 percent off on cosmetics, fragrance and home store items.

This year, with more job seekers coming for help than ever before, there is an increase in demand.
Goodwill needs more donations to fund the services it provides and the Goodwill Sale generates millions
of pounds of clothing donations, which are sold in more than 2,300 Goodwill stores. The revenue from the
donations goes toward job training and employment placement services.
