Norman Abe Levitin, age 86 of Toledo, OH, died Sunday September 13, 2009 in the Ebeid Hospice Residence,
Sylvania, OH.
Born in Toledo, OH, the son of Alex and Anna Kander Levitin, he was a graduate of Woodward High School,
serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps from January 7, 1943 until his honorable discharge on November 26,
1945. A Sergeant in the 431st Bomb Squadron Eleventh Bomb Group, and Army Air Force Gunnery Instructor,
he served in the Western Pacific Theatre taking part in the Japan Air Offensive and Eastern Mandates. He
was decorated with the Good Conduct Medal, WW II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Ribbon with
three Bronze Stars and the Air Medal.
He married the former Gertie M. Shoffer, also of Toledo, who survives.
His business career started in 1950 with Dixie Auto Parts, located in Bowling Green, OH, and spanned 58
years as owner and operator.
He was also a member of Congregation B’nai Israel.
Surviving besides wife Gertie M. Levitin, children Micki (Joe) Zakas of Gahanna, OH; Howard (Jenny)
Levitin of Indianapolis IN; and Nancy (Barry) Tiemeier of Dublin, OH; grandchildren, Stephanie Zakas,
Joshua Zakas, Jason Tiemeier, Noah Levitin and Benji Levitin.
Also preceding him besides his parents were his sisters, Netti Levitin, Matilda Hildebrand, Mary Handler
and Sylvia Portnoff.
Services and internment will be held Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at 1 p.m. in Beth Shalom Cemetery,
Oregon, OH.
Family and friends will be received in the Levitin home beginning Monday and continuing through Wednesday
evening.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful caring staff of Ebeid Hospice Residence for their care and
support.
