Helen Annette Isch, 101, of Waverly, Iowa and formerly of Bowling Green, died Thursday, September 3,
2009.
Helen was born on December 2, 1907, in Bowling Green, Ohio, the daughter of Afton and Martha (Lipsett)
Whipple. She was raised in Bowling Green and graduated from the Bowling Green High School in 1923. Helen
then attended Bowling Green State University, graduating in 1927.
Following college Helen taught high school Spanish in Wray, Colorado and later in Blissfield, Michigan.

On March 9, 1933, Helen was united in marriage to Arnold Isch in Bowling Green, Ohio. Arnold was the Wood
County Sheriff and they made their home at the Wood County Jailhouse where Helen was the volunteer
Jailhouse matron.
She was very active in the community where she volunteered many hours to the Wood County Historical
Museum and the Wood County Republican Party. She was a member of the Bowling Green First Presbyterian
Church where she was the first woman Elder. She also belonged to the Order Of The Eastern Star where she
served as Worthy Matron.
Helen enjoyed entertaining friends, traveling, reading, playing bridge, and most of all spending time
with her family. Helen moved to Waverly, Iowa in 2005, to be near her daughters.
Helen’s memory is honored by her two daughters, Fran (Howard) Mueller of Waverly and Jo (Hank) Bagelmann
of Waverly; four grandsons, Mark and Steven Mueller and Kurt and Eric Bagelmann; and six
great-granddaughters, Kathryn, Sarah, and Ava Mueller and Kelsey, Kasey, and Karson Jo Bagelmann.
Her parents and two brothers, Dr. Robert and Alden Whipple, preceded her in death.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the First Presbyterian
Church, 126 S. Church St., Bowling Green, Ohio with a funeral luncheon to follow. A Graveside Service
will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery at 2 p.m.
Memorials may be made to either the Bartels Chaplaincy Fund or to the First Presbyterian Church in
Bowling Green, Ohio.
