MS Society to honor 2
MAUMEE – The National MS Society will be honoring people who make a difference in the community on Sept.
29 during the ninth annual Dinner of Champions at The Pinnacle, Maumee.
Janet Mohrmann of Waterville will receive the Achievement Award, recognizing a person’s triumph and
successes despite dealing with the challenges presented by multiple sclerosis.
Shortly after her diagnosis with MS in 2004, she joined the "The Lunch Bunch" MS support group,
and quickly took on a leadership role. She serves on the Government Relations Committee and is on the
local MS Board of Trustees. Mohrmann also started the first MS Research Auxiliary, with the goal of
funding research to find a cure.
Alan Brass will receive the Silver Hope Award, recognizing an outstanding community leader.
He is chief executive officer for ProMedica Health System in Toledo.
Free prostate tests offered
Free prostate cancer tests will given this month in Maumee and Toledo at a mobile testing unit where
physicians will conduct a two-part early detection procedure, which includes a PSA blood test and
physical examination.
The tests are sponsored by Men Against Prostate Cancer in collaboration with ZERO – The Project to End
Prostate Cancer.
The tests will be next Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Andersons at 4701 Talmadge Road, Toledo,
and next Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Andersons at 530 Illinois Ave., Maumee.
Free prostate screenings will also be provided by St. Luke’s Hospital, Maumee, on Sept. 22, from 7:30 to

Grub and Suds is Sept. 12
ELMORE – Grub and Suds returns to Elmore on Sept. 12 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
There will be many makes and models of the latest motorcycles on display.
Two bands will be playing. Tim Erickson (special guest band) will play from noon to 3 p.m. Harley Packer
Band will play from 5 to 8 p.m.
Admission is $14 for adults and $7 for kids.
Gem and rockhound show set
TOLEDO – The Toledo Gem and Rockhound Club’s 2009 annual jewelry, gem and mineral show will be Sept.
11-13 at the Stranahan Theater Complex, 4645 Heatherdowns Blvd.
Hours are 2 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 11, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sept. 12 and 10 to 5 p.m. on Sept. 13.
Donations for the event are $3.50 for adults and $2.50 for seniors over 55. Children under 12 with an
adult and scouts in uniform are free.
