Kenneth John Krautter

Kenneth John Krautter, 96, of Bowling Green and formerly of Bluffton, passed away at 5:35 p.m. September
1, 2009 at Wood County Hospital, Bowling Green, following a heart attack. Kenneth was born April 29,
1913 in York County, Nebraska to John and Mary (Bremer) Krautter. During a weeklong pass from the U.S.
Navy he married Lillian Huber Krautter on June 21, 1944 in Findlay and she died April 30, 2005.
Kenneth was a 1931 graduate of Mt. Cory High School. As an Aviation Machinist Mate, he sailed on the
U.S.S. Nitro and the U.S.S. Marblehead in the Atlantic Ocean patrolling the water near Brazil, Puerto
Rico, Cuba, England, Northern Ireland, North Africa and Sicily. After the war, he worked as a mechanic
at the Harrington Chevrolet dealership in Findlay until starting to farm the Krautter homestead near Mr.
Cory in 1953. In 1965 they moved to the Huber homestead on Hillville Road south of Bluffton. They sold
part of that farm in 1996 and moved to Lima. In 2007 Kenneth settled in Bowling Green, living on his own
until he moved to Sterling House Assisted Living just two months ago.
Kenneth was a school bus driver for the Cory-Rawson and Bluffton schools for many years. He and Lillian
delivered Meals on Wheels in Bluffton and volunteered at Election Day voting locations. He was a
long-time member of the English Lutheran Church and American Legion Post #382, both in Bluffton. Until
his death, Kenneth was an avid reader on many topics, enjoyed crossword puzzles, and loved talking about
current events and politics.
Surviving are a son, David (Suzanne) Krautter of Columbus, and a daughter, Marcia (Thomas) Suter of
Bowling Green; four grandchildren, Lisa (Brody) White, Brian (Tina) Krautter, Andrew (Kathleen) Suter
and Michael Suter; a great grandson, Angus Suter; and a sister, Janette Gamble of Bigfork, Montana.
Sisters Mildred Koontz and Ruth Ritchie preceded him in death.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 5, 2009 at Chiles-Laman Funeral Home, Bluffton.
Rev. Kevin Mohr officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Bluffton
