Rossford Council focuses on lights

ROSSFORD – City Council saw the light last week, approving two lighting related ordinances.
Council voted unanimously to accept $263,000 made available through the American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act to improve lighting in its downtown area.
The city is planning to replace the fixtures throughout the downtown area, and discussed the style it
would prefer.
Residents have been voting on which light fixtures should be used with the results to be known soon.
Councilman Ken Hermes said he was less concerned with how the lights looked and more concerned with how
much light they shed.
The city has asked Toledo Edison about buying the existing poles, but City Administrator Ed Ciecka said
that cost would be more than buying new poles.
Also, council approved a special assessment to cover the $180,000 cost of lighting in the city.
The charge is the same as Toledo Edison has been levying, Ciecka said.
Councilman Leonard Michaels complained that Toledo Edison is often slow in addressing lighting problems,
especially in the Crossroads area.
Councilman Jim Richards said the city should receive a credit for all the days the lights aren’t
functioning properly.
In other action, the council approved the purchase of liability and property insurance from Wells Fargo
Insurance Services of Ohio for $59,505.
