Cincinnati police say phony cops targeting elderly
CINCINNATI (AP) – Police in Cincinnati say there’s been a rash of reports of elderly people being
victimized by con artists who claim to be police officers.
The scammers are well dressed, flash an ID to gain entrance to a home and then ask for help making an
arrest.
Police say unsuspecting elderly people have agreed to be driven to banks to withdraw cash or buy
cashier’s checks, sometimes amounting to several thousand dollars.
Detective Colin Vaughn says elderly people often are more trusting when it comes to helping police. But
he says officers would never ask someone to go to a bank with them and take out money.
