Two arrested in theft of pharmaceutical truck

PERRYSBURG – Two Toledo brothers are accused of hijacking a pharmaceutical delivery van full of drugs
destined for a senior care facility in the township.
According to the Perrysburg Township Police Department, the courier was making a delivery to Harborside
Healthcare on Starbright Road north of I-795 at about 11:40 p.m on Aug. 4 when he was cut off by a
vehicle with three or four males. Two of them approached the car with an unknown handgun and wearing
bandanas over their faces and forced the driver to the ground before leaving with bins of drugs –
including the pain-killer Oxycontin – in the delivery van.
The courier was not injured during the incident.
Pierre Franklin, 20, and his brother Ladaron Franklin, 25, both of Toledo, were arrested for armed
robbery in connection with the incident. They posted a bail of $35,000 on Aug. 5 and Aug. 6,
respectively, and were released from the Wood County Justice Center. A grand jury at Wood County Common
Pleas Court was to hear charges against the men Wednesday.
Det. Mark Hetrick, of the township police, said officers were close by when the incident was reported and
were able to set up a perimeter quickly with help from Lake Township, Rossford and Northwood police. A
Lake Township K-9 unit led officers to an apartment complex off Oregon Road, where Pierre Franklin had
fled on foot from a Ford Taurus and was apprehended. A bin of narcotics was recovered from that vehicle.

Ledaron Franklin was found riding a bicycle along Oregon Road north of the apartments.
The delivery vehicle had been abandoned in the complex parking lot.
At the time, someone driving a black Dodge pickup truck absconded with some of the pharmaceuticals but
the vehicle was later recovered.
"Evidence was found linking it to the robbery," Hetrick said.
The investigation into the incident continues as the department tries to locate others who may have been
involved in the robbery.
