BGSU announces open auditions for University Choral Society

The College of Musical Arts at Bowling Green State University has announced open auditions for the
2009-10 season of the University Choral Society.
The ensemble will join soloists and the Toledo Symphony Orchestra on the college’s Festival Series in a
performance of Handel’s "Messiah" on Dec. 2. The concert will be in Kobacker Hall of Moore
Musical Arts Center.
Performances of "Messiah" are also scheduled with the orchestra Dec. 5 and 6 as part of its
regular-season offering of the work at the Toledo Museum of Art Peristyle.
The group will also perform Mozart’s "Mass in C Minor" with the Lima Symphony Orchestra on
April 17.
The choral society provides opportunities for community and university singers to come together to sing
great choral music with orchestras. The ensemble performs frequently with the Bowling Green Philharmonia
and the Toledo Symphony.
Mark Munson, director of choral activities at BGSU, is director of the chorus. During his 20-year tenure
at BGSU, he has led the Collegiate Chorale, A Cappella Choir and University Women’s Chorus. He is also
the director of the Lima Symphony Orchestra Chorus and is founder and director of the local vocal
ensemble Opus 181. During the 2005-06 school year, Munson lived in Sweden, where he conducted and taught
choral music. He is a past president of the Ohio Choral Directors Association.
The chorus rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 at the Moore Center.
