Lusty Me, trained and driven by Kirk Dennis, equaled the all-age track pacing record of 1:58 in the first
division of a conditioned pace. The 8-year-old shares the mark with Birthday Present, who was timed in
1:58 in 2006.
Ironically, Birthday Present would win the second division of the conditioned pace Wednesday in 2:02,
holding off Sweet Honeydew, with Jeff Novak driving, in a good dual through most of the mile.
In equalling the record, Dennis took Lusty Me right to the top and they hit the quarter in :29.2, the
half in :59.2 and the three-quarters in 1:29, before coming home in :29 for the 1:58 mile.
Contraband, with Mike Wolfe driving, matched the division record of 2:01.4 for 2-year-old colt pacers,
set by Flip Flap Time in 1989.
Contraband also went wire-to-wire in :29.3, 1:02, 1:32.2 with the last quarter in :29.2 to match the
record in the Northwest Ohio Colt Racing Association stakes.
In the first division of the conditioned trot, Burris took the two-hole trip with Forbidden, a 4-year-old
who is racing for the first time in his career. Exact Copy, with Tom Moore Jr. cut the mile, but Burris
got Forbidden out just before the head of the stretch to pass Exact Copy and win in 2:03. Forbidden has
won all five of his pari-mutuel races this year.
John Konesky III of Pemberville followed up two wins on Tuesday by guiding Sassey Sauterelle to a
wire-to-wire victory in 2:04 in a division of the NWOCRA 3-year-old colt trot.
Booze Cruiser, with Duke Sugg driving, had the second-fastest mile Wednesday in the NWOCRA 3-year-old
colt pace. Booze Cruiser went wire-to-wire in 1:59.2.
Other NWOCRA stakes winners were: Curly Top, with Jerry Lighthill driving, wire-to-wire in 2:03.3 in a
division of the 3-year-old filly trot; Hi Hopes Cruiser, with Sugg driving, wire-to-wire in 2:02.3 in a
division of the 2-year-old colt pace; and Colt’s Toy, with Jason Thompson driving, wire-to-wire in
2:05.4 in the 3-year-old colt trot.
The final winner on he 10-race card was Baked Azalea, with Orrin Turner driving going wire-to-wire in
2:05.2 in the second division of the conditioned trot.
The NWOCRA series goes to the Henry County Fair in Napoleon on Aug. 17 and 18 with post time at 6:30 each
night.
