BG rehires Keller as assistant principal

The Bowling Green school board has hired back former elementary Principal Gary Keller, who was let go
after budget cuts in June.
The board’s vote Monday morning was unanimous.
Keller will return to the district as assistant principal for the new middle school, and will earn a base
salary of $80,000. As principal at Kenwood Elementary, he collected $118,663 in salary and benefits.
According to Superintendent Hugh Caumartin, the school board has a policy that, should an employee be let
go through a reduction in force, that employee is the first hired back should he or she be qualified for
the open position.
The board also promoted Joe Zabowski from assistant principal to principal at the middle school,
replacing Lee Vincent, who left this month to take a job near Cincinnati. Zabowski will earn $85,000, up
from $71,573 as assistant principal. His new salary, however, is less than what Vincent was earning.
Other administrative action approved by the board included transferring Martha Fether from Crim
Elementary principal to Kenwood principal, with a new salary of $78,500, up from $73,824; and assigning
Dan Sheperd, principal at Ridge Elementary, additional principal duties at Crim, with a new salary of
$76,690, up from $71,669.
During the special meeting, the board also hired Stacy Cowell to teach fourth grade at Conneaut
Elementary, and Geoffrey Cross to teach the Alternative Academy for the middle school and high school.
