Leads sought on burglaries in Troy Township

LUCKEY – Detectives are looking for leads on recent burglary activity around the Troy Township area.
According to the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, burglary attempts were reported at three Luckey-area
businesses during the July 4 weekend. On the evening of July 3, unknown subjects entered and grabbed
cash from two Main Street businesses. A damaged dead-bolt was also reported at another property.
The sheriff’s office is also investigating potentially related incidents that occurred: July 4 in the
nearby 7000 block of Five Point Road in Perrysburg Township; July 6 in the 3000 block of Middleton Pike,
between 6 and 10 p.m., in Luckey; and on June 30, during the day, at another residence.
"We’re looking into it, whether there’s any connection with the residential burglary in Perrysburg
Township," he said. "And I understand there’s been some over in the Sandusky County area as
well," said Det. Lt. Jamie Webb, detective division supervisor at the sheriff’s office.
A blue car has been reported near scenes of a burglary and possible burglary attempts.
The car was spotted in connection with the Middleton Pike burglary as well as suspected attempts on July
10 near a barn at Sampson Road, and on July 13 in the 21000 block of Lemoyne Road near Luckey.
Witnesses on Lemoyne Road reported a gold sports utility vehicle and a blue car with Virginia plates at
the residence. Two males were seen with trash bags near the house.
"All the cases are under investigation," Webb said. "They may be linked together, there
may be different groups doing it."
The sheriff’s office is encouraging residents to remain alert to their surroundings and to report
vehicles that do not belong in the neighborhood. Webb said sometimes burglars will knock on the door of
the targeted property to see if anyone is home and will fabricate a story about car trouble or
permission to hunt in the nearby woods, for example, if someone answers the door.
Webb said residents who notice suspicious activity should record vehicle plate numbers, or at least a
description of the vehicle or subjects to the sheriff’s office.
Other county burglaries were reported July 11 in the 2500 block Maple Street of Maple Street in Hoytville
and between July 6-12 at a 10000 block Sugar Street residence in Milton Center.
Web said the sheriff’s office typically sees an upswing in thefts and burglaries during the summer, but
that such activity has been more consistent this year.
"This year, it seems to be, our cases are pretty steady," he said. "We haven’t had any
dramatic drop-off in cases."
Anyone with information on burglary activity can contact the sheriff’s office at (419) 354-9001.
