Field crops day set for July 30

HOYTVILLE – Area grain farmers can gain valuable information for improving their operations on July 30
during the 2009 Field Crops Day at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center’s Northwest
Agricultural Research Station near Hoytville.
The event is free and open to the public, and will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. The field day is
sponsored by OARDC and Ohio State University Extension.
Timely and relevant topics included in this year’s event include:
¥ "Production Economics: Budgeting Tools for Managing Input Costs and Determining Cash Rental
Rates," presented by Barry Ward, agricultural economist, OSU Extension.
¥ "Field Crop Insect Concerns for 2009," by Ron Hammond, entomologist, OARDC and OSU Extension.

¥ "New Seed Technologies in Corn Production," by Peter Thomison, agronomist, OARDC and OSU
Extension.
¥ "Nitrogen Management – Environmentally Stable Nitrogen," by Ed Lentz, OSU Extension educator,
agriculture and natural resources.
